I am 69 years young. I am married to Esther, my wonderful and long-suffering caregiver. This is the second marriage for both of us. She brought two grown children to the marriage and I brought three (although one is now deceased). Between us, we have eight grandchildren.
My ALS has primarily attacked my facial muscles and esophagus although I have lost some lung capacity. I have lost thirty pounds because it is difficult for me to eat. I can still lose another fifteen or twenty pounds to get down to my ideal weight. The weight loss has done wonders for my arthritic knees and back. From the neck down, I am very healthy and active----although I doubt that I will ever again ride my bicycle for long 70-mile rides like I used to.
My hobbies include reading and computing. In my professional life, I have been involved with computers since the "dark ages" of computing.
I am a Lutheran and regularly attend church. I believe God has some plan for me as he has already guided me through two of life's challenges. ALS is just another challenge.
